The senses developed to help us navigate, to read pressures of all kinds that signified content beyond the apparent event, to make manifest the unmanifest. The links between the senses, between one phenomenon and another, between the observer and the observed begin to notate knowledge only to create an infinite area of the unknown, as notation distances itself by its formalization from the immediacy of experienced histories, as in mathematics. So, Rupmati gestures: Enter the lion’s den: Plunge in the roaring flood: Set foot on the centipede: Let scorpions sting you to blood; Thrust head in the cobra’s mouth, Trusting that all will be well… Follow your whim, if you wish To learn in a bitter school… Describing the state of the art in particle physics, A. Pais says: a concert hall just before the performance begins. Many musicians (but not all) have appeared on the scene. they are tuning their instruments. At times you can hear some interesting musical passages: the improvisations are to be heard from all directions, sometimes wrong notes are also heard. The scene is pregnant with the expectation of the moment when the first sounds of the symphony will be heard. The point appeared in the circle and was not; nay, that Point produced the circle. The Point in its revolution becomes a circle. Its beginning and end joined together when the Point measured the completion of the circle -- Sayid Nimatullah Wali Robert Bresson in response to my desire to work with him: Faites moi signe. |
